Arlington HTML2Exe - Help

Using HTML2EXE
After you install HTML2EXE you can run it
either from the
Start-->Programs-->Arlington HTML2Exe menu or by double-clicking the icon placed on the Windows Desktop. When you
run HTML2EXE you will be presented with the main screen which is
a Wizard designed to guide you through the three steps necessary to
create an executable EXE file from your HTML pages
as shown in Figure 1.
Step 1: Browse to your Start
page.
Click the Browse button and locate the page that is
your start page. This would usually be called index.htm or default.htm. The
Wizard will automatically include this page and all other files in the same
folder and all sub-folders. All file types are included, even flash files.
Step 2: Enter your Options.
Enter a name for your Exe file or accept the
default (htmlpages.exe). No path is required because the Exe file will be
created in the folder where you installed Arlington HTML2EXE.
Enter
a title that will appear in the Caption bar of the built in Custom Browser
that is used to display your HTML pages.
Enter an optional password
(or leave blank for none) that you can use to restrict access to your HTML
pages. This can be handy if you are selling an eBook.
If you want to change the appearance (eg icons, layout etc) of the
Toolbar used by the built in Custom Browser then select File-->Edit
Browser Toolbar. Notepad will popup and allow you to edit the Toolbar.htm
file. You could also edit this toolbar with any HTML editor. For example,
if you wanted to disable Printing, you could remove the Print icon from
the Toolbar.
There are 3 other options that become available only if you register
the program:
1. Optionally create a CD Autorun file for use with
distributing CDs.
2. Optionally set an expiry period such that your
client's eBook will expire unless they enter an Activation key that you
have supplied them with.
3. Optionally
enter the secret Activation key for use with the expiry period. Nobody will know
what the Activation key is except for yourself and the clients you choose
to give the Activation key to, for example via email after they purchase
your eBook.
Step 3: Click the Compile
button.
This will compress all the required pages and files
along with a built-in custom browser and produce a standalone Exe file. A
message box will popup when compilation is complete letting you know the
location of your Exe file.
Most of the features in the
program have been made as intuitive and self-explanatory as possible.

Running your
Exe file
You can distribute the Exe file either by email
or via CD to your clients. You can preview or run the Exe file by
double-clicking on it in the folder where you installed HTML2EXE.
- For example, you may have chosen to name it
htmlpages.exe. Double-click the file and a message box will appear
confirming that you want to display the pages. Click Yes and wait a few
seconds until the Custom Browser comes up and displays your Start page.
Clicking on any link in your page should work as expected. The Custom Browser comes with built-in navigation controls and print buttons.
