Starting AKB
After you install AKB you can run it either from the Start-->Programs-->Arlington Kiosk Browser menu or by double-clicking the icon placed on the Windows Desktop. When you run AKB for the first time, you will be prompted to enter an admin password as shown in Figure 1. This allows you to control who can access the Options area where various restrictions are defined. Either enter a password and click Save Password, or choose to enter one at a later date by clicking on the Remind me Later button.

The main screen
You will next be presented with the main screen which is divided into four main areas: The Toolbar, the Address Box, the Menu Bar and the Browser window as shown in Figure 2.

The Toolbar lets users navigate web pages and also to print the screen if you have enabled this feature. The Toolbar can be edited with any HTML editor, or even Notepad to add or remove buttons, change the button images or add your own links. The Toolbar also allows you to enter the Options area by clicking on the Options button or exit AKB by clicking on the Exit button. As an administrator, you can remove these buttons and choose to click Ctrl-O or Ctrl-X to enter the Options menu or Exit AKB respectively.

The Address Box, should you choose to make it visible via the Options menu, allows a user to quickly jump to a web page by typing in a URL, for example http://www.myuniversity.com.

The Menu Bar consists of a set of web sites and associated icon images that have been defined in the Options menu (Favorites Tab).

The Options menu
Clicking on the Options button on the Toolbar, or pressing Ctrl-O will take you to the Options menu (after entering the Admin password if it has been set) as shown in Figure 3. There are various Tabs where you can customize AKB to suit the way you wish to use it in your environment.

Some of the features you might like to set are:

Favorites Tab --> A list of URLs that are permissable to access.
Desktop Restrictions Tab --> Prevent access to Start Button, Task Bar etc.
Desktop Restrictions Tab --> Prevent various programs from launching.
Web Content Tab --> Block access to Adult Sites.
Web Content Tab --> Restrict access to only sites in the Favorites List of URLs.
Startup Tab --> Tell AKB which page to go to, when it starts.
